FINDING STRENGTH TO COPE
By Pastor Timothy Burdick
Regardless of your personal belief system,
your "theology," if you will, the Lord wants
to offer you a word of encouragement today,
from Isaiah 30:18 - “Therefore
the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and
therefore He exalts Himself to show mercy to
you. For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for Him.”
Many times the thoughts which we entertain
can be a barrier to good things coming our
way. For example if we see God only as a
harsh judge or ourselves as unworthy, we are
erecting a mental road block. Learn to see
God as the loving Father who He is and learn
to recognize yourself as a person who is
greatly valued by Him.
If you are a parent, you want your children
to see you in a positive light, don’t you?
Well, that is the way God intends for us to
view Him. This verse lets us know that God
has an unquenchable longing, a desire to
bring good into our lives. He wants us to
know that at any time we can come to Him and
give Him the cares on our hearts.
When we go through difficult situations, God
wants to be with us in a new way; helping us
face trauma or just the everyday annoyances
that plague this world.
In order to gain a new perspective, I would
encourage you to try the following: Write
the above Scripture verse (Isaiah 30:18) on
a card and instead of letting problems
overwhelm you, pull it out and let God
refresh you with His love. You will find
that the irritations which once stopped you,
now only slow you down as you find new and
creative ways to deal with them. For by
meditating on this verse, you will find the
strength to go on and the obstacles which
once seemed insurmountable to you will
become challenges instead of barriers.
Remember Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ Jesus who
strengthens me."
